Ath, European tourist destination of excellence

After Durbuy in 2007, Ath has won the competition organised in Belgium by the Walloon region, and becomes a European tourist destination of excellence.

Besides its historical heritage and a successful town renovation, the city also hosts every year, since the 14th century, a major event that has been recognised as UNESCO intangible heritage in 2005: VISPERAS "GOUYASSE" Y DESFILE DE GIGANTES - DUCASSE D'ATH (ATH).

Thanks to its victory, Ath now joins the list of a young network of European tourist destinations of excellence. This list was formed in 2007 by the winners of the first edition of the EDEN project. This network's ambition is to favour exchanges of experiences and jointly organise international promotional actions. Moreover, a presentation video is to be produced by the European Commission. It will be broadcasted for the first time during the European Tourism Forum where Ath will represent Belgium in the exhibition on the winners of the competition.
