FESTIVAL AND PROCESSION OF ST. ELOI

FESTIVAL AND PROCESSION OF ST. ELOI
© OPT / J. Jeanmart

During the festival of the Patron Saint of Bouillon, blessed bread is distributed at the end of the mass: pyramids of bread, decorated with flowers and ribbons, are carried on stretchers by four men dressed in monk habits. These pyramids of bread are made from soft cakes, which are known to ward off many ailments. These "cake porters" are at the head of the cortège, followed by the musicians, the ancient ironworkers of the town, (who celebrate their Patron Saint), their families and all those who love tradition also follow them. These breads are transported in a cortège to the church, and, after being blessed, are partly distributed during the Offering. After the mass, the cortège goes from house to house distributing the bread to those who were unable to attend the ceremony.
