ART, SLATE AND ... TOBACCO

In the heart of the Ardennes, LAFORÊT shows a perfect harmony between the natural elements and heritage. VRESSE is a favourite meeting place for walkers, mountain-bikers, horsemen, or cross-country skiers ... but Vresse also still maintains its artistic vocation. CUGNON ET MORTEHAN are located at the river Semois. In these very old villages you will find houses covered in local slate and the characteristic architecture of Ardennes dwellings in the 17th and 18th centuries. FRAHAN, built on a curve of the river Semois, is still typical of an agricultural Ardennes village of the 19th century. The Rochehaut view-point towards Frahan is one of the best known in the Semois valley. OUR is an example of the traditional habitat of the Ardennes plateau.

Worth a visit: the tobacco dryers, the hurdle bridge (in summer), The Pinocchio Workshop (exhibition and marionettes theatre), "promenade des légendes" - the Legends walk.

FORTIFIED CASTLE OF BOUILLON AND ITS BIRD OF PREY SPECTACLE (BOUILLON) © Château fort de Bouillon The castle-fortress of Bouillon is one of the most ancient and interesting remains of feudalism in Belgium with the first fortifications thought to go back as far as the 8th century. The castle-fortress of Bouillon was built on three rocky outcrops overhanging the Semois river and is characterized by a labyrinth of corridors and huge vaulted halls. The castle became first famous due to Godefroid, an acknowledged defender of Saint Sépulcre and the leader of the first Crusade (1096).
