AUBERGE D'ALSACE - HÔTEL DE FRANCE **** (BOUILLON)Near the walking paths. Good cuisine, menus for guests, large and varied breakfasts. Very agreeable. |
ARCHÉOSCOPE GODEFROID DE BOUILLON (BOUILLON)The archeoscope of Godefroid of Bouillon will transport you on an emotional journey through space and time into the heart of the first Crusade. The life and destiny of Duke Godefroid and his trip to Jerusalem are brought to life with modern audio-visual technology, special effects and outstanding sets. The ancient convent of the Sépulcrines, which dates back to the beginning of the 17th century, in which the archeoscope is situated, belongs to the Order of the Saint-Sépulcre, founded in Jerusalem by Godefroid of Bouillon in 1099. |
FORTIFIED CASTLE OF BOUILLON AND ITS BIRD OF PREY SPECTACLE (BOUILLON)The castle-fortress of Bouillon is one of the most ancient and interesting remains of feudalism in Belgium with the first fortifications thought to go back as far as the 8th century. The castle-fortress of Bouillon was built on three rocky outcrops overhanging the Semois river and is characterized by a labyrinth of corridors and huge vaulted halls. The castle became first famous due to Godefroid, an acknowledged defender of Saint Sépulcre and the leader of the first Crusade (1096). In order to finance his expedition to the Holy Land, he mortgaged the castle with the Archbishop of Liège. During the wars of Louis XIV it underwent large-scale refurbishments by Vauban. |
MUSEE DUCAL (DUKES' MUSEUM) (BOUILLON)Not far from the castle of Godefroid of Bouillon, the Dukes' Museum overlooks the Semois River and occupies two classified buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The newer of these two buildings is the old residence of Nicolas-Joseph Spontin, Councillor to the Sovereign Court of Bouillon during the 18th century. The older building is known as the "House of the Government of Bouillon" and served as lodgings for the officers of the castle. |
