IN THE HEART OF THE VALLEY OF THE SEMOIS

The Castle of Bouillon was built in the late 10th century. In belonged to Godefroid of Bouillon. He sold it to finance the first crusade (1096). Also worth seeing, the Ducal Museum and the Godefroid de Bouillon Archéoscope.
The forest of Muno takes us to Chassepierre. Every summer, this small town is the setting for an international street spectacle.
Nestling in one of the most beautiful scenic spots of the Semois valley, Chiny is a small village that has lost none of its authenticity. In the middle of the forest we find the Orval abbey. The famous Trappist beer is brewed in one of the outhouses.
A brewery with a friendly atmosphere awaits us at Rulles. To finish the day, let's enjoy the delights of the buffet at the Maurice Grévisse station in Marbehan.

Its spring, secular rose window and its medicinal plant garden are the three main attractions. A museum details the history of the monastery through the reconstruction of old forges, a model of the abbey that was constructed by Laurent Dewez and a pictorial of Brother Abraham, a famous painter in the 18th century. The abbey was rebuilt in 1926 on the foundations of the monastery destroyed during the French Revolution. Today, the Abbey is still home to a community of monks. |

FORTIFIED CASTLE OF BOUILLON AND ITS BIRD OF PREY SPECTACLE (BOUILLON)The castle-fortress of Bouillon is one of the most ancient and interesting remains of feudalism in Belgium with the first fortifications thought to go back as far as the 8th century. The castle-fortress of Bouillon was built on three rocky outcrops overhanging the Semois river and is characterized by a labyrinth of corridors and huge vaulted halls. The castle became first famous due to Godefroid, an acknowledged defender of Saint Sépulcre and the leader of the first Crusade (1096). In order to finance his expedition to the Holy Land, he mortgaged the castle with the Archbishop of Liège. During the wars of Louis XIV it underwent large-scale refurbishments by Vauban. |
