Between the very chic Bois de la Cambre and the Palais de Justice, perpendicular to the famous avenue Louise, a view opens up over the Eglise de la Trinité: this is the rue du Bailli, gateway to a very special district. It's not surprising that Brussels' designers have felt a magnetic attraction to this haven of elegance: those masters of Art Nouveau, Horta and Hankar, were there before them, here and there marking the façades with their enchanting sgraffitti. Bailli/Châtelain is particularly interesting to explore: Belgian and other labels. Here, style reaches the peak of perfect simplicity… The fashion tour continues on its way towards a real gem: place Brugmann. This quietly unassuming Art Deco and Art Nouveau influenced district is a delightful revelation.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION CONTRETYPE - HOTEL HANNON (SAINT-GILLES) © Contretype It was in 1902 that the engineer Edouard Hannon (1853-1931) called upon his friend, the architect Jules Brunfaut (1852-1942) to build this hotel, a masterpiece in the Art Nouveau style. The furniture was designed by Emile Gallé. The frescoes from the stairwell and the smoking room are the work of the Rouennais painter Paul-Emile Baudouin. The remarkable stained-glass windows are made by Evaldre, disciple of Tiffany's. At the present time, the building, which is the property of the town of Saint-Gilles, is occupied by the Contretype Photographic space which is devoted to the promotion of creative photography by organizing, in particular, exhibitions.
