The origin of the Mundaneum dates back to the end of the 19th century. A true "Internet of paper" the Mundaneum is nowadays situated in the very heart of Mons, in an art deco building with a magnificent exhibition room which scenography was conceived by the famous duo François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters.

It is an archive centre, a place for temporary exhibitions, conferences and debates that wants to let relive the utopian view of its two founders in 1895: bibliographer Paul Otlet and Henri Lafontaine, winner of the Nobel prize for peace (1913).
