Discover the amazing Roman Païs. The Collegiate Church of Saint-Gertrude, a jewel of Romanesque architecture, is located right in the centre of Nivelles. The Saint-Jacques neighbourhood, the brewers' district still bears many features recalling Nivelles' old breweries. The nearby towns of Ittre and Tubize have known a rich industrial past, but they also offer a preserved and diverse nature. In the centre of Rebecq, the mills of Arenberg are part this village's unique atmosphere. The Tavern du Grand Moulin offers a unique opportunity to sample the beer brewed by Rebecq's Lefebvre Brewery. Discover a rich feudal past in the village of Braine-le-Château before returning to Nivelles for a final gastronomic stop.

The presentation of old tools, antique and unusual collections, educational panels illustrate the history of beer. There is also a film screening.

The collegiate church of Nivelles was consecrated in 1046 by Wazon, bishop of Liège, in presence of Henry III, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and is the city's masterpiece. This imposing Roman style sanctuary has a two-headed plan with two transepts and two opposing choirs. The interior of the collegiate church impresses through its dimensions: 102 m long for the central nave, which makes this one of the largest Roman churches in the world. The west work (or "westbau") consist of an apse, 2 chapel-galleries, a large high room ("imperial room"), an octagonal clock tower and 2 corner turrets. You can also visit the crypt, the archaeological basement and the cloister. The southern turret houses Jean de Nivelles, a small copper warrior of 2,08 m high.

DODAINE PARK (NIVELLES)

An elegantly laid out listed park with two styles of garden, English and French, and a large number of statues.There is a handsome rectangular pond and a several-hectare fishing lake. The park is the traditional access route to the well-equipped Queen Astrid Sports Centre. The park includes facilities for basketball, volleyball, football, a sports hall, a covered swimming pool, a sports field and water park. There are two sculpted groups of cherubs which came from the former Hotel des Postes in Brussels, a baroque portal and columns celebrating great figures from Nivelles.

The Arenberg mill bears testimony of the past and has today become a major cultural centre. It is part of the gems of the Walloon Brabant heritage. At the heart of the village, this ancient mill stands at the border of the Senne and has conserved the impressive machinery which brings the paddle wheel in action. The tourist office has recently been fitted out on the ground flour, (since 2004). The Mill houses the permanent porphyry - stone extracted from the Quarry of Quenast - museum on the first floor and on the 3 spacious floors, there is an entire exhibition programme during the tourist season.

Nice house dating from the first half of the 16th century. According to tradition it is the ancient residence of the bailiffs of Braine. The bailiff was, during the ancien régime, entrusted with the investigation of criminal affairs. He allegedly lived there until the 18th century. This house is characterised by a remarkable Renaissance gable, decorated with three blind cow eyes and animated by five salient cordons.

The picturesque Small Mill, which has preserved, restored and transformed its milling room, is an exceptional remnant of the medieval economic activities along the Senne.
During the traditional grinding demonstration, the historical, technical and anecdotic aspects are broached. A Beer House is installed there in collaboration with the local traditional brewery.

PILLORY (BRAINE-LE-CHATEAU)

Historical monument since 1936, this is one of the few pillories to have preserved its lantern. It was erected in 1521 by "Maximilian de Hornes de Gasbeck", chamberlain of Emperor Charles V. Of all the remains of the past at Braine-le-Château, the pillory is undoubtedly the most famous and most well-known monument.
