Château de Louvignies - Louvignies Castle

- Address:
Rue de Villegas 1
7063 CHAUSSEE-NOTRE-DAME-LOUVIGNIES (SOIGNIES) - MAPS: Google Maps

The Château de Louvignies opens its doors in the middle of the Hainaut countryside, only a few kilometres fromSoignies in the province of Hainaut.
The castle domaine, which has belonged to successive generations of the Villegas de Saint-Pierre family, went throught a long and vast transformation and reconstruction during the 19th century, particularly between 1878 and 1885, under the watchful ayes of architect Désiré Limbourg and landscape architect Louis Fuchs.
The residence was thus transformed into a welcoming castle that showed the eclecticism of the period and combined various styles, while maintaining certain elements of the previous constructions.
The interior décor, furnishings and domestic items remain and contribute to the site's authenticity as an example of the Belle époque.
A fascinating visit takes you from the white sitting room, to the dining room with its imposing fireplace on the ground floor, from the upstairs bedrooms to the downstairs kitchens with their huge stove or even to the laundry room.
A real film-set décor
The castle has been used several times as a filming location, one of the most famous movies to be filmed was Germinal by Claude Berri.
François Ozon also filmed Angel at the castle and more recently Marie Gillain shot some scenes for her film Landes.
Walks in the park
Don't hesitate to continue your visit in the English-style park designed by Fuchs in 1870, which contains 20 or so of the most remarkable trees in Wallonia, a few of which are listed on the "Parcs et Jardins" website. There is also an ice-house and a charming vegetable patch.
