Perched on a sixty metre high rocky outcrop, the chateau of Modave dominates the whole Houyoux valley. Although it has some older architectural elements, including a medieval keep, it owes its current appearance to Count Jean-Gaspard-Ferdinand de Marchin who restored it between 1652 and 1673. Its interior decoration is exceptional. The main façade fronts onto a main courtyard which features an elegant basin and fountain, approached via avenues which radiate out from it. The formal park, redesigned with the gardens in the 19th century, lies alongside the chateau. The garden features rose beds and is enclosed by yew hedges.
