The 2.5 ha park of La Plante came to being following the industrialisation in the region and the construction of the lock around 1850. The park was finished in 1853 and was chosen by King Leopold I to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Belgium. The immediate presence of the Meuse with its lock activities and boat passage give this park an extra interest. On 4 December 1989 it was listed because of its aesthetic importance and in 2003 it was completely renovated: the paths were restored, gazebos with climbing plants were placed opposite the Meuse, the statue of painter Théodore Baron was restored, trees, rare species and collection plants were planted.
