The Cathedral of Tournai, with its five bell towers, its Romanesque nave and transept, and a Gothic style choir is a medieval architectural gem. Its wide nave consists of 4 horizontal parts and 9 rows. The column with all differently decorated capitals form a whole of several hundred unique pieces in Belgium. The masterpiece is the Renaissance choir screen of Corneille de Vriendt in the middle of the transept. In the southern part of the transept you can see some extraordinary church windows. The middle of the gothic choir (58 m long - 36 m high) is dominated by the marble altar originating from the St Martin abbey of Tournai.
