In the Walloon Brabant province, the Cistercian abbey of Villers unveils 850 years of history and numerous events and activities all year round.
Founded in 1146 and a classified heritage site in the Walloon region, is it one of the most beautiful architectural sites in Europe.
The abbey ruins constitute an exceptional natural setting and combine the discovery of a place filled with history with the pleasure of a stroll around it.
While you're there, you will primarily discover the monks of the Middle Ages.
Visiting the abbey
You can visit the abbey ruins with a free guide, which is available in 10 languages, with an audioguide for adults or with a treasure hunt, specially created for children, which can be downloaded (link in French only) on your Smartphone or MP3 player.
During your visit, you will discover QR codes in different rooms of the abbey. They give you lots of information on the history of this magical place.
Situated in the heart of the ruins, the medicinal and medieval garden (created with the support of the Yves-Rocher Foundation) are equally worth visiting. A unique spot with more than 200 plants used in the Middle Ages to treat ill people are cultivated.
The Villers Abbey is also a lively place that lends its exceptional setting to outdoor music and theatre shows.
