The little village of SOULME is the departure point for your tour. With a silhouette which underlines the prominent features of the relief, Soulme can truly be called a village on the ridge. In the Fagne region of Namur, the village of FAGNOLLE clings to the south face of a wide valley watered by the Grands Viviers stream. Set in the middle of the Viroin-Hermeton Nature Park, the centre of VIERVES-SUR-VIROIN has a network of narrow, winding paths, roads and lanes which makes it very pleasant to walk through. LOMPRET is in the heart of the limestone Fagne at an altitude of 250m. The origin of the name Lompret comes from the "longs prés" (long prairies) along the Eau Blanche river.

Comment:

Worth a visit: the Roman Church of Sainte-Colombe, the mill, the unusual trees ,traditional farms and houses. The ruins of the 12th century Fagnolle Castle, the Mayors' House, the Hospital farm, the old Bailiff's house, the wash-house, the church of St Martin and St Jacques de Compostelle (16th - 19th century) and the enclosing wall to the cemetery. The castle of the lord of the Manor of Hamal, Saints Rufin and Valère church, the 19th century boys school, the 18th century presbytery, the ruins of the old mill, the 19th century station, the 19th century washhouse, the chapel, the Marie Victorin nature centre, the Viroin valley. The remains of the Feudal castle, Chimay Abbey (Trappist Monks), the limestone cliff, the Valley des Oiseaux (Bird Valley), the "franc bois" site.
