Exhibition about the 18th century French painter, 30 years after the last retrospective dedicated to him in Europe. In Brussels 08/02 to 12/05/13.
A unique opportunity to rediscover his work, which is stunning despite its limited size, due, in part, to his sudden death.
To overcome the obvious differences between eras and artistic expression, two internationally famous artists have been invited to join the party: conductor and harpsichordist William Christie and painter Michaël Borremans.
They will help to showcase the multi-disciplined aspects of Watteau's work and show its genuine value.
Indeed Antoine Watteau freed himself from the rules and constraints of classicism, showing the huge social changes that occurred in the 18th century.
He often let music inspire and guide him and this is evident as no less than a third of his works feature musical scenes!
The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the The Museum of Fine Arts in Lille.
There is music in the paintings, drawings and engravings of Watteau and his contemporaries. Come and experience their artistry during one of the concerts and live shows!
