The Magritte Museum is the world reference for everything to do with the famous Belgian artist and writer.
It opened in 2009 in the Altenloh House (a building of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium) and welcomed no less than 500.000 visitors within the first year!
The museum displays the works of the surrealist artist, which belong to the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and are mainly the result of purchases as well as of the legacies of Irène Hamoir-Scutenaire and Georgette Magritte.
Many private collectors, as well as public and private institutions have contributed to the Magritte Museum project by lending their masterpieces.
It is the richest collection in the world with more than 200 oil paintings, gouaches, drawings, sculptures and painted objects but also advertising posters, music partitions, vintage photos and films shot by Magritte himself.
