The origin of MONTIGNIES-SUR-ROC goes back more than 10 centuries. Nick-named "Perle des Hauts-Pays" (Pearl of the High lands), it forms part of the Parc Naturel des Hauts-Pays (High lands Natural Park). Don't miss the rustic alley "Plat Caillou" (flat stone) and the very old Rue du Coron which climbs toward the
Brunehault road, where the artisans busy themselves with the "pleasures of the palate"; "the Abbaye
des Rocs Brewery" a sweet-shop and farm produce. Close to Mons , SAINT-DENIS EN BROCQUEROIE
offers numerous picturesque aspects, ideal for walks. Also don't forget to take the lane to the old Abbey mill and discover this outstanding landscape of lakes.
The small town of LENS and the surrounding villages form an area rich in lovely isolated farms in the heart of a rich landscape.

Worth a visit: dwellings around the green Place Fulgence Masson, the old staircases, the old watermill(1758), Notre-Dame church (18th Century)with its little artificial grotto, the Calvary (18th Century), the Chapelle du Rosaire (1856),the old cemetery and its Notre Dame de Cambrai chapel (1589), the Motte Baraffe Château and a marble
works. The old Saint-Denis en Brocqueroie Abbey, the old water-mill with its waterfall (1777),the lakes, The 18th Century Parish church and its cemetery, the Tithe Barn (1683). The Calvary (1749), the local museum, the farms and chapels, the 18th Century Lombise chateau.
